Community involvement
Our school values strong partnerships with our families and community. Parents and carers can get involved through our Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) or by volunteering at our school. Your time and support help make our school a better place for everyone. Our P&C is a group of parents, carers and school community members. They assist with school planning, fundraising, events and volunteering. Our P&C works in partnership with our school to promote the interests of our school community.
Joining the P&C a great way to meet other families, get involved and contribute to our school's future. We would love to have you on board!
Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)
Our Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) is made up of parents and carers, teachers and community members. The P&C meets regularly to contribute to decision-making, developing policies and management plans as well as fundraising.
The Five Dock Public School Parents and Citizens Association meets on the second Wednesday of each month (during school term) in the Hub, from 7:00pm. All members of the school community are welcome to attend meetings and to be involved in the work of the P&C.
The P&C's primary function is to support the school through fundraising activities. The P&C also operates the school's Uniform Shop and OOSH Program (Outside of School Hours Care).
There are many opportunities for parents and carers to be involved at Five Dock Public School, through helping in the classroom or the uniform shop, at community events or by coming along to Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) meetings.
The P&C at FDPS is the oldest in Australia, with a strong and cooperative relationship with principal and staff. It organises school community events and fundraising events such as the Moonlight Cinema Night, the School Disco, and Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day stalls. The funds raised through these events go directly to support the school's needs - in recent years it has helped pay for all classrooms to be equipped with interactive whiteboards, has upgraded literacy resources across the school and has fully funded the oval renovation.
Volunteer at our school
Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child’s education as well as get to know the staff and other parents and carers.
Research shows that children benefit when their parents or carers are actively involved in their education and school life.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- listening to children read in the classroom
- helping supervise excursions
- getting involved in fundraising activities
- joining school committees.
- getting involved in the P&C
- volunteering on sports days and other school events
