Applying to enrol in Preschool
Children are eligible to enrol in NSW public preschools if they turn four on or before 31 July of that year. Applications for the next year are taken from term two of the current school year.
Please make an appointment with us to apply to enrol your child. You will need to bring these documents with you:
- your child's original birth certificate or passport
- proof of child's address - originals of two different documents, ie. council rates notice, residential lease, electricity or phone bill
- low income health care card (if applicable)
- family law or relevant court orders (if applicable)
- any health care plans or relevant medical reports
If applying under Specific Priority Enrolment Criteria copies of these original documents need to accompany your application. If successful you will be required to show original documents at a later date.
- confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status (if applicable)
- proof of financial hardship such as health or pension card (if applicable)
- documentation of disability or special need. The region's student support coordinator will be notified and an appraisal carried out to determine the most appropriate support mechanisms.
Children attend Five Dock Public School preschool classes for one year only. Classes run from 9.00am-3.00pm and cost $40 per day and are paid fortnightly in advance. Our preschool caters for forty children on a five day fortnight rotation. That is, in week 1 of the fortnight they will attend either Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. In week 2, they will attend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday and Friday. This enables us to comply with the national requirement that preschools have fifteen hours of preschool each week or thirty hours over two weeks.

Completed application forms can be delivered to the Five Dock Public School main office, Henry Street. A non-refundable administration fee of $50 is payable on application.
All education and care services must comply with the Public Health Act 2010, which states that children who are unimmunised due to their family’s conscientious objection can not be enrolled. For their enrolment to be accepted, a child’s Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) Immunisation history statement or form must be provided. A copy of this must be stored with the preschool enrolment form. This documentation will show the child is
- fully immunised for their age,
- has a medical reason not to be immunised, or
- is on a recognised catch-up schedule.
Excluding conscientious objectors, there is a 12-week temporary exemption for supply of the history statement or form for:
- an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child
- a child evacuated during a state of emergency
- a child in out of home care
Please note, all information needs to be verified with original documentation before final offers are made. Any false information may influence the status of any offer. Similarly, if any of your circumstances change you must provide current information as soon as possible.
