Department of Education General Guidelines

Please Note: There is a high demand for placement into the Preschool with the school consistently receiving more applications for enrolment than places available.

The school follows eligibility criteria set out in the Department's preschool enrolment procedures. If the number of applicants exceeds the places available, the school's placement panel will consider each application and make recommendations for placement according to the Department's eligibility criteria and priority set out below.

  • Public preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.
  • Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age before 31 July that year.

Priority is given to:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander children
  • children living in low socio-economic circumstances
  • children who are unable to access other early childhood settings due to financial hardship.

The principal of the school will then offer enrolment in the following order:

  • children living within the school's catchment area
  • children living outside the catchment area but have siblings at the school
  • other applicants

Kindergarten Orientation

Children attending our preschool will be sent pre-filled Kindergarten enrolment forms in Term 3.  If your child will be continuing on to Kindergarten with us, please sign the form and return it to the office as soon as possible.

If your child is not currently in our preschool, please complete an online enrolment.  Alterntaively, you can download a fillable K-6 Enrolment Form and bring it to the school office with your child's original documents.

There will be three transition dates for you and your child to attend our school in preparation for starting school.  Over the two days of transition we will talk with your son or daughter about what happens at school, they will meet their buddies, participate in a range of activities and go for a walk around the school. Parents/Caregivers will also have the opportunity to learn about Five Dock Public School.

More information will be provided closer to the time. See our kindergarten section for more details.
